March 29th, 2010

I have been convinced by a friend to start a blog about our garden in Homer, Alaska. With that thought I have changed the old Sizzlestick blog over to our new Morning Meadow Farm blog. As I write this March morning it is snowing and blowing outside, reminiscent of the blizzard we had three weeks ago. Yesterday I prepped the green house by adding snow to all the beds and pots (an old tip from Larry Kajdan of Gakona, AK). The pots of last years soil and new compost from last year are thawed and ready to be mixed. The green house was a comfortable 66 degrees. I started the 120 day leeks three weeks ago, last week the thyme, marjoram, and rosemary, along with two varieties of bush cherry tomatoes. I will be placing a seedling heat mat in the greenhouse and starting frost resistant greens next week.
